My Pastel has breed two females, will they get gravid if it's to early? Will the females hold the semen till they have follicles? I was told they store it for like a month.

There have been a few documented cases where breeders bred a female to a simple recessive male the whole year and produced dominant offspring. what that shows is that paticular female held sperm from the prior year! This is why you need to be very careful about selling hets. If you breed a pied male to a normal female one season to produce 100 hets for pied. The following season you use that same female with a albino male to produce albino hets , its possible those albino hets could be het for pied! this is not very likely but it is possible. I encourage selective breeding in a project group. I have females used just for that morph each year. If you dont care about hets one trick i like to use is I will breed a pair of simple recessives and use a dominant male at the end of the season. the advantage of that is that if the simple recessive male failed I will still get some dominants and know who the father was. No babies from this female will be sold as hets!!!!!!!!! As far as being too early , usually the initial lockups in my opinion only intice the females to develop ova. I keep my breeders together from sep-mar in the past. This year I will be lowering temps november 1st and will start pairing now 15 -mar 15 . Ive seen females lay clutches after 1 lockup and seen females locked 30 times and never produce. Everyone has there own way of doing things but I pair up animals and they are left together mon-fri and seperated on the weekend and offered feed. You really have to watch your males during breeding! They will go off feed and dont care about anything but breeding. Typical Male ;D I make sure i record weights on all breeders and compare weights every 30 days.

I'm trying the three day method, putting the male with a female for three days then back in his tub for three days. I do offer him a small meal when he is alone but he hasn't eaten one since he's been breeding. The females on the other hand still take their food.

Thats typical of males thats why the pre breeding season is so important. Do me a favor and due to you using a 3 day rotation go to the what will you learn thread and list this as your yearly project for everyone to learn from. I would just keep offering feed to everyone and keep an eye on weights. Sounds like your going to have another great season. I was honored to give my opinions last season. Keep good records and it will help you in seasons to come!
