a quick question, is it better to try to buy some older 50 or 60% het females to buy and buy one 100% het male than to buy a bunch of newborn babies?

In my opinion I would always try to buy babies. Usually when you buy older animals your getting other breeders failed animals. Not to say that there aren't quality subadults out there . I always ask myself , Why is this guy selling an adult breeder? Males are cheap as hets so thats why you buy the male 100% . If you buy from a reputable breeder you know he's carrying the gene. By buying a full clutch od 50% hets your hoping to get a female heavy clutch. So there is a possibility you could get 2,3,or 4 het females. You also could get all normals , its a gamble. But odds are that atleast one will be a het. You could buy the 50% clutch first and get those girls up to size and then buy the male 1 or 2 years later. the females will take 3 years to get to breeding size. Its a time factor game, The really cheap way to go is to buy just a male 100% and breed him to a normal adult female. Raise the babies and breed them back to the father in 3 years. It takes like 5 years if everything goes as planned . For $200.00 and 5 years you could produce a killer morph.

I agree with Bryan, I'm always wondering why someone would sell a good breading adult. If you can get some sub-adult's it might cut a year or so off the time.
